Teams & collaboration

Create a team, invite members, share maps and layers, and transfer ownership.

Teams are part of the Team plan. They let you share maps and layers with named people and collaborate, rather than handing out public links.

Create a team

Open Team from your account. On the Team plan, give a Team name and Create team. You can run more than one team and switch between them.

Invite members

In a team, Invite someone by email with a role of Member or Admin.

  • If they already have a DropMaps account on the same email with a Team plan, they join automatically.
  • Otherwise, share the generated join link — they can sign up with any email and still join.
  • Admins can change member roles, revoke pending invites, and remove members. Owners can rename or delete the team.

Share with the team

Create a team, invite someone, then share a map with the team.

From a map’s Share → Team & transfer tab, share the map (or a layer group) directly with the team or with individual people, choosing Can view, Can edit features or Can edit map. Shared maps open live in each member’s editor. What’s shared with a team is listed under Shared with this team.

  • Can view — look, search and export, but change nothing.
  • Can edit features — add, change and delete features, within each layer’s editing rules (below).
  • Can edit map — everything above, plus the map’s layers, styling, locks and editing rules.

Control what collaborators can edit

Each layer has Collaborator editing rules (layer settings › Editing) for people with Can edit features:

  • Add features — on or off.
  • Change features — all, only the ones they added, or none.
  • Delete features — all, only the ones they added, or none.

To set every layer at once, pick a preset under Share → Team & transfer → What “Can edit features” allows and choose Apply to all layers. The presets are Full editing, Add + fix own, Add only and Update only. You can still set a single layer differently afterwards.

The rules don’t limit you or anyone with Can edit map. While any limit is set on a layer, a collaborator also can’t change its fields. Features added before the rules existed count as nobody’s, so Only the ones they added doesn’t cover them. Lock editing is still the switch that stops all editing on a layer, for everyone. To record who added or changed each feature, turn on edit tracking on the layer’s Fields tab.

Transfer ownership

You can transfer ownership of a map to another account. The recipient gets a pending transfer to accept (under Account → Pending transfers); you stay the owner until they accept. You choose which of your layers move across with it. The recipient needs a DropMaps account with enough storage.

Real-time collaboration

Maps shared with edit access sync live between collaborators, so changes show up as they happen.
