Sharing & the viewer

Publish a map as a link — public or password-protected — with a branded, read-only viewer.

On a paid plan you can share a map with anyone via a link. They open it in a branded, read-only viewer — no account needed — while your data stays safe from edits.

Sharing requires the map to be synced to the cloud first (see Cloud sync). Links only work once syncing has finished.

Open Share from the Maps manager (it shows a badge when links exist).

  • Add an optional description and password, then Create link.
  • Each map allows one public link plus up to four password-protected links.
  • Per link you can Open, Copy, Revoke / Restore, or Delete it. Public links are marked Public; password ones Private, with any expiry date shown.
  • Stats show the view count and last viewed date for each link.

Viewer settings

Viewer settings controls which tools your viewers get: Layers panel, Legend, Basemap switcher, Attribute table, Print / Save PDF and Address search (optionally restricted to your saved views only). Editing is always off. You can also set the initial view — current map view, or fit to all data. Settings apply to every link for the map.

Branding & splash

Branding customises how the shared map presents:

  • A Map title shown in the viewer header.
  • A Logo (PNG/SVG/JPG/WebP/GIF) — the DropMaps mark moves to a small corner badge.
  • An optional Splash screen with a description (basic HTML allowed) and background colour, shown when the viewer first opens.

The viewer experience

Visitors get a clean, read-only map. If the link has a password they’re prompted for it; if a splash is enabled they see it first (with Don’t show this again). Revoked or expired links show a friendly notice. Shared maps reflect your latest edits once they’ve synced.

Sharing with people & teams

On the Team plan, the Team & transfer tab shares a map directly with specific people (by email) or a whole team, with a role of Viewer, Edit data or Edit map — opening live in their editor. You can also transfer ownership of a map to someone else. See Teams & collaboration.
