    How to do it

    1. Drop your GeoPackage file into the box above — or click “choose a file” to pick it from your device.
    2. Click “Convert to Shapefile”. DropMaps opens in a new tab with your file on the map, so you can check it looks right.
    3. The save options open by themselves, with Shapefile highlighted. Click it and the file downloads straight away.

    Questions

Will anything change in the shapefile?

Shapefiles only allow column names up to 10 characters, so longer names are shortened. A shapefile also holds one kind of shape (points, lines or areas), so keep those in separate layers before converting.

My file has more than one layer. How do I convert the rest?

The save options open for the first layer. For the others, open the layer’s menu in the layer list and choose Export….

Can I keep the original coordinate system?

Yes. The file is shown in latitude and longitude, and if it came in a different coordinate system you can tick “Export in original CRS” in the save options.

    Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is opened right in your browser, on your own computer. Nothing is sent to us unless you choose to save the map to a DropMaps account.
