Open a GeoTIFF on a map — free

Drone maps, aerial photos, satellite images and elevation files often come as GeoTIFFs. Drop one onto DropMaps and it appears in the right place on the map, on top of streets or satellite imagery, so you can see what it shows.

    3. The image is placed on the map. Zoom and pan around it like any other map.

    Questions

    Does every GeoTIFF work?

DropMaps shows Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFFs (COGs) straight away. A plain GeoTIFF needs converting first with the free DropMaps Converter desktop tool, which also handles very large images — the app tells you if yours needs it.

Can I compare it with satellite imagery?

Yes. Switch the background map to satellite and fade your image in and out to compare.

    Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is opened right in your browser, on your own computer. Nothing is sent to us unless you choose to save the map to a DropMaps account.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It works in any modern web browser — Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari — on Windows, Mac, Linux, and on phones and tablets.
