Questions
What is the difference between KML and KMZ?
A KMZ is just a zipped KML, sometimes with pictures or icons packed inside. DropMaps opens both.
Can I turn a KML into something else?
Yes — once it is open, you can save it as a shapefile, GeoJSON, CSV, GeoPackage and more. See the KML to shapefile converter.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is opened right in your browser, on your own computer. Nothing is sent to us unless you choose to save the map to a DropMaps account.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It works in any modern web browser — Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari — on Windows, Mac, Linux, and on phones and tablets.
